Bulletin Editor

Role description

As the Bulletin Editor your primary responsibility is the fortnightly bulletin, published on the Society’s website and Instagram. You will have creative control over the bulletin, its content, and its presentation. Currently the bulletin focuses on a discussion of a current topic, internal and external opportunities of involvement and goes on to highlight a charity. Each section must remain relevant to the Lawyers Without Borders Student Division’s mission – advancing the rule of law and promoting justice and accessibility. Whilst you will have flexibility in the role and the option to discuss any changes with the rest of the society, it is important that the bulletin always echoes the philosophy and neutrality of LWOB. Visit the bulletin section on both our website and Instagram for examples.

Responsibilities and general duties of the role

  • Full creative control over the Student Division’s fortnightly bulletin. This currently includes researching and writing up an agreed relevant topic for the news section, relating it back to the readers via opportunities to get involved, and shining a spotlight on a charity of your choice that links to the LWOB mission.

  • Coordinating with the Marketing team with regards to content creation, the design of templates and second opinion.

  • Collaborating with the society at weekly meetings with regards to ideas and involvement. You are expected to attend each meeting and contribute to the discussion.

Qualities needed for the role

  • Creative – present the bulletin in a creative and imaginative manner, choosing topics that are both relevant to LWOB and interesting to the bulletin’s readership.

  • Efficient – able to balance the creation of a fortnightly bulletin, uploading it on time alongside your university studies.

  • Editorial ability — write and edit your own work with a good academic register, consolidating difficult topics in a reader friendly, news-like style.

  • Team player — expected to work collaboratively alongside the other members of the Student Division, taking part in its events and participating actively with ideas in its meetings. You should be reliable, respectful, with good communication skills.
