A Message from our Founders

The Lawyers without Borders Student Division at the University of Manchester was established in 2020 to create a unique portal of opportunities for students at Manchester that went beyond specific jurisdictions and had the recognition of a well-established global organisation. The drive to defend human rights, the Rule of Law and pro bono is at the nucleus of this student division. Alongside creating awareness, we are proud to be able to provide students with real-life opportunities to practically make a difference in the world.

Our two major projects are the ‘research project’ and the annual ‘Rule of Law Innovation Challenge’. The former allows the students to assist LWOB’s volunteers in different countries by conducting thorough research on a current human rights issue. In contrast, the latter enables students to participate in an intellectually challenging competition with an opportunity to closely work with international law firms. We also host a variety of events, including fundraisers, socials and speaker events where prominent activists and individuals are invited to speak on a breadth of pressing current affairs.

Via this student division, we hope to build a community where every student confidently expresses their opinions and feels supported in their endeavour to make a difference. We appeal to all the like-minded students to join this movement transcending boundaries and advocate for change!
